Types of Charters
Make-Up Charters
Standard charters charge a flat rate for booking the boat—if you have a small party and you’d like to be grouped with other anglers to “make-up” a charter trip, inquire about a Make-up Charter. A deposit of $200/person is required within 7 days of registration to stay on the list. In the event of poor weather or if a trip can not be scheduled due to lack of anglers, we will attempt to reschedule or refund the deposit.
Make-up charters are assigned to boats on a rotation basis. We are unable to guarantee particular boats for make-up reservations.
Designated Make-Up Charters
Often boats will designate make-up charter days in advance. These trips are prescheduled and guaranteed to sail for a flat per person rate, even if six anglers are not available). Check the Charter Fleet list to see which boats offer this option.
Head Boat
A head boat (also known as a “party boat") can accommodate larger numbers, and charges per person (per “head”). A minimum head count is required for the head boat to sail; sign up for a head boat trip in person or call the marina office at 800-551-8478.
Full-Day Gulf Stream
This is the most popular of the charter options. Anglers are taken to the Gulf Stream, approximately 25 miles offshore, and troll for a variety of warm water species including: Tuna, Wahoo, Blue & White Marlin, Sailfish & Dolphin (Mahi). This trip leaves early in the morning and lasts about 10 hours.
Full-Day Inshore
Anglers troll & sight cast near shore or at the Diamond Shoals area in search of Bluefish, Spanish & King Mackerel, Cobia, Striped Bass or Red Drum. This trip leaves early in the morning and lasts about 10 hours.
Half-Day Inshore
A 6 hour version of the Full Day trip.
Winter Bluefin Tuna
The months of December through March offer a unique opportunity for anglers to catch the largest and rarest of the tuna species, Bluefin Tuna. Hatteras is considered the premier location in the world for these majestic giants. Fish range from 200 to over 1000 lbs. Full day trips only so book early. Due to weather considerations, captains prefer to book 2 out of 3 day trips.
Wreck Fishing
Anglers bottom fish over one or more of the many wrecks offshore and catch Snapper, Trigger fish, Tile fish, Sea Bass, Pompano, Drum, Cobia and other species. Half day and full day trips are offered.
Live Bait Fishing
This technique is used in the fall months to target king mackerel and over the wrecks in the summer for other action. Full days.
Sight Casting
Anglers search out schools of Cobia, Drum, Bluefish or Stripers. When found, anglers cast plugs and spoons to prompt a strike. ½ days and full days are offered.
Fly Fishing
Fly fishermen should contact the marina or charter to customize a trip for their particular interest. Many inshore and offshore possibilities await the fly angler.
Sound Fishing
A relaxing day can be spent fishing in the Pamlico Sound for Cobia, Flounder, Bluefish, Spanish mackerel, Trout, Puppy Drum, and other species. ½ day and full trips are available.
